Meet the Members

Andy Banks

President

I have always been keen to do things outside of the work environment that make a difference to other people. As far as Round Table was concerned that I included being involved in fundraising events so that we could help local people finance local projects. I’ve got lots of experience in this regard having organised a Summer Ball and the most profitable fireworks display in its 40 year history. Having left RT a few years ago I have been hoping to find something else where I can make a meaningful contribution to local projects, and possibly projects further afield. I am aware of the great work that Rotary does and like the fact that it is more ‘hands on’ than simply giving money to good causes.

Nick Stimpson

I wish to continue with my community involvement and hope this club will allow me to achieve this in an active manner. I live in Hereford and also hope to meet new people.

Practical and sociable, with a professional background in insurance and finance prior to retirement in 2015. I do a fair bit of DIY and am a former trustee of Home-Start in South East England.

My business interests are in Clothing Retail, Building and Property.

I enjoy travel and ride a motorcycle.
I have been a passionate Rotarian for nearly 20 years and enjoyed raising money and working on projects both locally and internationally.

I hope I can contribute, enthusiasm, fund raising skills.

Tanya Everard
Paul Harris fellow

I have been a Rotarian for several years and enjoy feeling that I am contributing to making a difference in our local and wider community. I have also made some very good friends.

I am excited to be part of Hereford Elgar Rotary. It is a fresh, forward thinking club, set up to benefit Herefordshire, as well as to develop links internationally. I believe I can contribute enthusiasm, creativity and commitment.

My professional experience lies predominantly in education, leadership and management.

Over the years I have been involved in various voluntary organisations and projects. These range from governance, organising and participating in activities , supporting others and fundraising.

I have been a Rotarian for 12 years and I really do love the organisation. It suits me as it is an organisation that gets things done. Having run several small companies over the years this sense of action, accountability and fun suits me. It’s true that some clubs can be a bit fuddy duddy and formal but in my experience a club like ours is the opposite – and can cut through that to be able to make a difference locally and much further afield. I’ve been privileged to travel to Cambodia, Nepal, Tanzania, South Africa and India through Rotary and been able to see on the ground the projects we have helped to fund and get involved in the Polio vaccination which Rotary has led in. On top of this I have been involved with several local projects and fund raisers – most recently in our club The Queens Jubilee Beacon on Stockley Hill.

In my normal life I live on a farm, run an ecommerce company and am involved in property renovation with projects in Wales and Andalusia in Spain. Love to travel, love to eat, love to laugh.

I hope to be able to contribute a variety of skills to help the club thrive into the future.

Philip Gorringe
Past President
Health and Safety Lead

I have been a Rotarian for five years and have enjoyed all aspects of being part of a respected international organisation.
I am a farmer and have varied interests mainly related to the countryside and its management.

As a farmer I am practically minded and pragmatic which I have found very useful in varied Rotary projects and events.

I have a particular interest in international projects. The Rotary organisation gives a reliable structure to facilitate these and in many cases, a modest sum can make a huge difference. I have particularly enjoyed visiting projects that in many ways are a total contrast to my day to day life on the farm.

I am looking forward to progressing within our club to help make a difference where ever we can.

San Montague

Treasurer

I have always worked with finance and systems (for both corporate and small businesses), and currently have the perfect role doing this for a number of small and varied businesses.

I live in a small rural village and have served on many of the committees be that for the Village Hall, the Sports Club or the local AmDram Club. With my working background it stands to reason I am often sought out as the treasurer.

I am now looking to extend the community work and think Rotary is the perfect way to achieve this as it not only gives the opportunity to work locally but internationally and with a group of like minded people.

International Projects Lead

I have enjoyed being a Rotarian for nearly 25 years during which time I have served as President twice, Club secretary for three years, Chair of Trustees and chaired most sub committees.
It is highly satisfying to be part of a fund raising organization and then to decide which local or international charities to support.
Whilst local charities are easy to identify, it is not the case internationally. I have found it so rewarding to see firsthand charitable causes in India, Nepal, Cambodia, South Africa and Tanzania that we have been able to support.

Hereford Elgar is a new refreshing way of being a Rotarian without all the unnecessary formalities that bog down some more traditional clubs.

As a Chartered Surveyor, my business life has revolved around the local property scen, having been both an Estate Agent and Property Developer, in my 50 + years in the profession.

I hope that we can develop Hereford Elgar into the new exciting Rotary Club we all envisage and would encourage anyone interested to give us a try!!

I was in the armed forces for 14 years and then owned and run the victory pub for 20 years and The Hereford brewery for 22 years.
I’m the chairman of central Tupsley community group for the past 10 years and put on two or three events every year supporting the community.
I’m also the chairman of Hinton community Centre and work with Vince McNally on projects there. I’ve been a director at the core Rollerskating CIC for past 7 years, and I’m a former coach and player at Hereford rugby club.
I carried out over 400 hours of volunteering at Elgar house during the pandemic. I’ve reached over 100 donations of blood and plasma this year and and so far litter picked over 110 bags of rubbish in Hereford.

Having worked with the City Rotary Club on a couple of occasions – first with the refugee relief in France, and then here in Hereford helping to set up and then work with Rotarians on the food parcel project during the pandemic it opened my eyes to the great work that Rotary does.
For that work I was honoured to receive the Paul Harris award.

Rotary has been an important part of my life for over 5 years. I have participated in some very worthwhile projects and met many interesting people.

It is a privilege to be involved in establishing a new, vibrant club that we hope will attract diverse membership and of course, make a difference in our local community and internationally. I hope my experience of working with many different people in different settings and in different countries, lends itself to support these aims.

My professional background includes serving in the Armed Forces, the Prison Service and running a small business. I have been a President of my previous club and I am delighted to be Secretary of this club.
