What a brilliant evening we had! A huge thank you to Christine Hope and the team at Hopes of Longtown for hosting us for an unforgettable night of Cider, Cheese & Chat.

We were treated to a fascinating and inspiring talk by Christine, who shared her journey from her Nuffield Scholarship travels right through to building one of the most beloved and awarded village shops in the UK. Her passion for local produce, community, and entrepreneurship shone through – and there wasn’t a person in the club who wasn’t inspired.
The tasting was just as impressive: local cheeses and ciders, along with apple juice for the drivers, were on offer – all delicious, all carefully sourced. Afterwards, we enjoyed a relaxed summer picnic and drinks in great company.
Of course, no visit to Hopes would be complete without a bit of shopping – and the shop did not disappoint. From locally grown rhubarb and Willy’s Fish & Chip Vinegar to the perfect Earl Grey tea, there was something for everyone. In fact, if you ever need something – whether it’s a birthday card, a loaf of sourdough, or the best chutney you’ve ever tasted – Hopes of Longtown may genuinely be one of the best shops on the planet. PS – If your club or group are looking for a really lovely evening – in a delightful part of the World – ask Christine if she can host you – it was great.
